Demaret, Snead, Nelson, & Mangrum Signed 1949 Ryder Cup 2nd Day Ticket
Preparing on the course and financially for the trip across the pond trip to Ganton Golf Club in England, a United States Ryder Cup Challenge match was contested at Belmont Country Club in Massachusetts. Under the tutelage of non-playing captain Ben Hogan wanted to take a look at the play of his team together and individually, this coming only six months after the captain's nearly fatal car crash. Many of the top stateside players signed this entry ticket to the 2nd day including Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, and Purple Heart Recipient Lloyd Mangrum. The end result of this challenge match: monetary gain for the team trip and a 7-5 win over the British. This once $2.00 ticket is seldom seen, with the unlikely addition of the stars of golf from over 70 years ago making it unimprovable. Attendance reflected that of an exhibition match, versus a Ryder Cup, leaving a very limited supply of these in 2020. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
