1912 "The Royal & Ancient Game of Golf' Deluxe Ltd Ed Book #2/100 - Hilton & Smith
One of the treasures of golf collecting. Harold Hilton, a two-time British Open Champion, debunks the theory that golf had its origins in Holland, and includes much material on the early Scottish game. A special section lists all the courses in existence at the time, many of which are shown in excellent photographs. The head and tail illustrations of each chapter were drawn by famed golf artist, Harry Rountree. The rare and highly desirable "Large Paper" first edition (in original full vellum) of this golfing classic is very well illustrated with photographs and prints of artworks. Some collectors might ask why a book valued at $23,000 (Gilchrist's Guide to Golf Collectibles) would finally see itself on the market starting at an incredible $5,000. The off condition of this book would be a result of the foxing present on the opening pages, while leaving the title page in great condition. There is also some foxing on page 159 (John Whyte image). Edge wearing present and the binding is minimally loose, spine still strong and all pages intact. Fabric strings on the interior of both the front and back cover have become loosened and hanging from inside their respective cover(more so from front cover), some areas missing the fabric. As a whole the book has become slightly bowed, turning outward from the leaves. Slight rubbing on front cover. #2/100 of the Subscriber's Edition is one of the most sought after books for any book or golf collector, now is your chance to finally claim this relic.
