Walter Hagen Winning Putt First Ever 1927 Ryder Cup Match at Worcester CC Wire Photo
This is from Friday's foursomes matches, and also is the first match of the day in the first ever contested Ryder Cup Match. Verso cut line by mistake notes Johnny Golden as the one putting but his teammate that day, Walter Hagen is actually the player sinking the putt on the 16th and final green (as Great Britain's Ted Ray/Fred Robson watch)for the 2 and 1 triumph in the first Ryder Cup match. Ted Ray later summed up the initial matches: " One of the chief reasons for our failure was the superior putting of the American team. They holed out much better than we did". Usual corner nicks and surface flaws commensurate with news room handling is evident on the otherwise glossy surface. Excellent overall condition with Acme News Pictures stampings and cutline on the reverse.
Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on Sunday, October 2nd with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended
