President Eisenhower Signed 1955 Invitation Letter to Gene Sarazen
Here we have an original invitation letter from President Dwight D. Eisenhower to Gene Sarazen. The letter is dated April 21, 1955 and is on the 'DDE' White House letterhead, and signed by President Eisenhower. Eisenhower was the United States' 34th President, serving from 1953-1961. Gene Sarazen was one of the world's top golfers during the 1920s and 1930s, but I'm sure it was still a surprise to be invited to an informal dinner and chat at the White House by the President of the U.S. Gene Sarazen is one of only five golfers to complete the career Grand Slam, winning all of the major championships. He completed the feat by winning the Masters Tournament in 1935, after winning the following: PGA Championship in 1922, 1923, and 1933; U.S. Open in 1922 and 1932; and the Open Championship in 1932. President Eisenhower signed this White House letterhead invitation in black fountain pen and the letter presents very well. The invitation comes with its original envelope, addressed to Mr. Gene Sarazen, as well as a proof of provenance letter from Mark F. Emerson. See photos for more detail on the content of the invitation to Sarazen along with the proof of provenance letter.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature of President Eisenhower and their certification of its authenticity will come with this lot.
