2024 April Golf Memorabilia Auction - Closing Date 4/14/2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/15/2024
Roberto Devicenzo's Personal Used Dunlop Full Size Bag
Probably one of the most memorable and saddest Masters was the 1968 event, with the controversial ruling
involving Mr. De Vincenzo's mistake of signing an incorrect scorecard. This unconscionable situation will be
rehashed every year during the Masters in Augusta, Ga. For many years, Travelers Insurance Co. and the Cadillac
Automobile Co. shared the spotlight for commercials being shown in limited spots. Our donor's husband was
employed at Travelers and was fortunate enough to be a company representative for many years at this historical
golfing festival. This gentleman, now deceased, and Mr. De Vicenzo were friends, both being from Argentina. After
all the media and newspaper articles, things were getting better for Mr. De Vincenzo. He received many cards and
letters from fans telling him they were praying for him and the misjustice! On another occasion, his friend at
Travelers asked him to autograph a golf ball. Mr. De Vicenzo graciously did so but also included this special gift for
his friend. This personally owned and used Dunlop Staff Golf Bag, along with the signed golf ball, was donated to
the Babe Zaharias Foundation. A signed letter from the founder of the Zaharias Golf Foundation, Hal Shaw, will accompany this lot.
