1951 US Open Contestant Badge - Hogan Win
Offered here is a contestants badge from the 1951 U.S. Open. The facing side of the 1 1/8" x 1 1/4" metal badge of entrance bears the wording "PLAYER","1951" and"U.S.G.A" in raised fashion with a navy blue enameled circular accent which states"OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP". The reverse of this badge, from the 1951 Championship won by Ben Hogan at Oakland Hills Country Club, still carries it's original pin clasp in working fashion. For Hogan it back-toback U.S. Open victories (6th of 9 career major wins). Two strokes back entering the final round, Hogan fired the low round of the week a incredible 67, one of only two subpar rounds for the entire Championship. With only 152 players who can lay claim to being part of the field for that moment in golf history, a contestants pin from the course Oakland Hills which was known as "The Monster" truly is a treasure that only a select few collectors can own.
Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on November 16th with extended bidding to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended.
