1956 PGA Championship Contestant Money Clip
In 1956 Jack Fleck facing a PGA championship field of 128 players in match play posted 5&4 over Fred Gromauer and 3&2 over Hap Milia wins before falling 1 up to Jim Turnesa. The badge of contestants admittance that year for the PGA was an enamel faced 1 ½” x 2 ½” money clip which carried engraving 1956 on its facing side. Fleck's money clip issued for the '56 event is offered here still retaining all it's original enamel. The reverse of this memento carries stampings of where these matches were contested "Blue Hill Golf & Country Club" "Canton, Mass" and the date July 20-24. When seen the remaining PGA contestants badges, from the original 128 issued to players, can often not be associated to any specific player. Adding extra value to this example is the known quantity of Jack Fleck and his status as a major winner of the 1955 U.S. Open.
