Jack Fleck's 1953 USGA Open Golf Championship Contestant Badge
With this example of the 1953 (1 1/8" x 1 1/4")U.S. Open contestants badge you will never have to worry about an upgrade for your collection. With vibrant enamel complete and original clasp strongly intact reverse does technically contain some discoloration due to oxidation. Preserved brilliantly by Jack Fleck since it was used by him as a competitor in the '53 event. The 1953 season marked Hogan's most dominate year of his career. His victory in the 1953 Open was also dominate with Hogan firing an opening round 67 to establish a lead he held from start to finish as the only player to better par for the 72 holes (-5) posting a six shot win over second place finisher Sam Snead. The win at Oakmont in 1953 marked Hogan's fourth and final U.S. Open triumph. We all by now know the strong tie in between Hogan and Fleck, and what would unfold a mere two short years from now in the 1955 U.S.Open. As a comparison in the summer 2013 Golf Auction a similar example of the 1953 contestants pin sold for $2,304.
