Dear Mr. Adams,
Very sorry I can not help you, you sure bring back memories, Horton, Craig,
Claude, all very good friends of mine. Horton and I grew up in Springfield, MO.
I started caddying at 9 1/2 years old, Horton was my caddy master.
Claude and myself traveled together in 1940's winter tour. Craig was a great
playerand friend of mine. The year Craig won Nat Open in Fort Worth, I was
playing back of him, I remember waiting for him to finish. I finished in the
first ten place, was very important, this was how I won a place to play in the
Masters Tournament(1942)
After 36 months on a light cruser in the Navy, as you know I won
1946 Masters, along with six other tournaments - 5th money winner - $19,000
I missed the big tour, also the Senior Tour , my day was no money - Masters
Prize $2,500.00 One thing in my favor My times was the best, can't take that from me.
Sure wish I could help you, with every good wish Herman W. Keiser
over
Bill:
Horton Smith won two Masters 35 and 37
Springfield MO those days 30 to 40
thousand people
Herman Keiser won Masters 1946 Springfield MO
Payne Stewart Springfield MO
I was responsible for teaching Bill Stewart, Payne's Father how to play
golf. Bill and myself traveled all over MO as amateur players, never lost a
match three years
I really think this should be in the news, and give a little
town like Springfield MO for giving all three making a go
at golf. Three great tournament players Plus 3 major tournaments
Bill again with every good wish Hope I can shake your hand
Some day
