Complete Full Uncut Signed Ltd Ed 1981 Donruss PGA Tour Golf Card Sheet w/ Both Nicklaus' - Danny Edwards Collection
This card sheet would forever change the golf card industry and is proudly presented here - an extraordinary signed example that is one of a scant few scribed in existence! After all, it took PGA Tour insider Danny Edwards over 2 weeks to track down his cohorts in the locker room, friends, foes and legends coming together in penmanship for this dazzling collection of signatures from golfers in the 1981 Donruss set of 66 cards including the checklist. The design would be simple, use a vibrant green and orange color scheme and feature top-notch action shot photography - with Jack Nicklaus' rookie card an iconic tight shot of the Golden Bear.
This uncut, limited edition complete set sheet was gifted to players in the set and select dignitaries in appreciation of their participation in what was then almost an experimental release in a then underdeveloped golf card market. It was the first modern all-golf card set! Because of this a host of PGA Tour stars and Hall of Famer rookie cards appear, as a licensed set widely distributed by a major card company. Each numbered base card is considered a rookie issuance. When examining this framed sheet of 66 cards from the collection of Danny Edwards, #57 and also a "rookie," two signed Jack Nicklaus cards will appear - rookie base card and 'Statistical Leader' along with Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite signed cards as well as many more. Included is also signatures of challenging golfers that were not generally accessible including Jim Simmons, George Cadle, and Jack Newton - missing from nearly every cut set. These were done in mostly ballpoint pen, with Lee Trevino the only player not applying their signature (Statistical Leader). This set remains in good condition, with some slight discoloration on the edges from age and storage. It contains the limited edition 50/500 written on the checklist card and in all likelihood many of those 500 are not signed - with this being the first we have seen. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.

Flags, tracks and Danny Edwards. The 9-time champion professional golfer crossover race car driver's resume will never be duplicated. His autobiography titled 'Driven', co-authored by Bob Denney, used multiple meanings of the word - very fitting for the ambitious winner. Later an entrepreneur extraordinaire, Edwards developed/ founded Royal Grip Co., CEO of GreenFix Golf the innovative repair tool company, and founder of The Chipping Equation. Part of a golfing family, his younger brother David joined him on the tour in 1978. Past President of the Tour Players Association, Danny Edwards, notched five PGA Tour wins: 1977 Greater Greensboro Open, 1980 Walt Disney World National Team Championship, 1982 Greater Greensboro Open, 1983 Miller High Life GCO, and 1985 Pensacola Open. Prior to his PGA Tour card the decorated amateur was a 1972 Walker Cup Team Member, 1972 North and South Amateur champion, and 1973 Open Championship Low Amateur. Danny Edwards made 25 major championship cuts and had his card for 14 seasons prior to mastering other facets of life in business.
