Ben Hogan Vintage Signed Album Page - 1942

Finding Ben Hogan autographs are not challenging, finding ones from the early part of his career, in this case May 1942, now that is another story. This one was autographed in the month of May right between Hogan's playoff loss to Byron Nelson in April at the Masters and his June of '42 win at the Hale America (thought by many to be his fifth U.S. Open win). Hogan left a major impact on the game of golf with his swing theory and meticulous preparation. His legendary career ended with nine major championships, tied for fourth all-time, and he is one of only five golfers to win each Major and complete the career Grand Slam. Hogan won the Open Championship in his only attempt in 1953, the U.S. Open in 1948, 1950, 1951, 1953, the Masters Tournament in 1951 and 1953, and the 1946 and 1948 PGA Championship. Hogan has left his signature on this album page in pen. An inscription of "Saturday May 16, 1942" is also present.
Sam Byrd has signed the back of this album page in ink accompanied by the same notation of "Saturday May 16, 1942." Sam Byrd won six times on the PGA Tour and finished in second place at the PGA Championship in 1945, and in third place at the Masters in 1941. Before Byrd became a professional golfer he played professional baseball for the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds. Byrd is the only athlete to have competed in the Masters tournament and appeared in the World Series. Sam Byrd has signed reverse side. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed both the signatures of Hogan and Byrd, and their letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
