Letter and Envelope to Jack Fleck from Dwight D. Eisenhower-James Spence Authentication(JSA)Letter of Authenticity
1963 Typed Note signed Dwight Eisenhower writing from Palm Desert, California he composed letter on 5 3/4" x 8" paper imprinted D D E. The five star general and former President who was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2009 writes "Dear Mr Fleck: I was very happy to see you at the tournament in Palm Desert--it was most exciting play on Sunday. Thanks for the kind word about my golf--for me, it has been good golf. With best wishes," Signed in ink it displays light wear and the traditional two fold lines as is the custom with missives of this size. Remains some 50 plus years after the penning in near mint condition. Both letter and envelope display light toning from previous framing, and carry the date February 11, 1963. The tournament Eisenhower refers to in his letter is the Palm Springs Golf Classic which was in its fourth year of play, and would grow to be known as the Bob Hope Desert Classic. Ike, whose name graces the areas biggest medical center was a stalwart of the five-day Pro-Am formated tournament. The exciting play he references was the dual between Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player for the title. Ending in a regulation tie between the two stars of the day, the rising star Nicklaus defeated Player in an 18-hole playoff to claim the victory. It was his 4th career win on the P.G.A. Tour.
