Willie Park Driver

William Park Jr was born in Musselburgh in 1864, son of the famous William Park who was the first ever Open Champion in 1860. Having served time as a professional at Ryton Golf Club in Northumberland he returned to Musselburgh in 1884 when he took over the running of his father’s club making business and soon started to become known for his new club designs. In 1885 he invented the Bulger Driver and used this club during the Open Championship that year. He won the Open in 1887 and 1889. He became known as the best clubmaker during the period 1885 to 1895 he patented a number of different clubs including a Lofting iron, a Driving Cleek, a Brassie with grooves on the sole and his Bent Neck Putter. He became a very large producer of clubs with factories based in Musselburgh, Manchester, Edinburgh and London. Here we have a driver made by Park that measures 41 1/2" from hosel to end and presents in good condition with Park's head and shaft stamp.
