Walter Hagen Signed Cutout and Matte Display with 'Best Wishes', 'March 13th, '1930'
With 11 Major championships in his career, Walter Hagen made quite a name for himself in golf. That total puts him at 3rd all time, behind Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Here is a signed time-period presentation piece that includes a sizable Hagen signature accompanied by the inscriptions "Best Wishes" and "March 13th 1930". It was compiled and put together using five clippings with his likeness from publications prior to that date. The signature, along with the rest of the writing is strong and would likely grade an 8 out of 10 for strength. Hagen passed away in 1969, well before there was a large collecting base for golf memorabilia. Oversize pieces containing Walter Hagen's signature are uncommon, as this piece framed up is 15" by 20." James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
The Golf Auction will be on site this Tuesday through Sunday (July 31st - August 4th) at the 2019 National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Il. We will be accepting consignments, performing appraisals, and accepting bids. Stop by and say hello! We will be in Booth #1018
AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, August 4th with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
