One of the early champion golfers, Herd was a staple of British Open championship golf. First appearing in the 1885 event, Herd would compete in The Open for five decades last playing at 71 years of age. Over this period, he would place in the Top Ten 20 times including four second place finishes (1892,1895,1910,1920)and his crowning achievement the 1902 British Open Championship. Offered here is a blue colored album page which Herd has neatly signed in fountain pen adding the inscription "Open Champion 1902" and the date of signing "Sept 27th/(19)24 below his autograph.
