Tony Lema Signed 1963 'Challenge Golf' Contract with Sports Illustrated Cover Framed Presentation
Tony Lema was a great golfer and remembered by many as the 'life of the party', as his nickname 'Champagne' might indicate. Lema was experiencing much success in his career, and two years off of his Open Championship win, when he unexpectedly died in an airplane crash in 1966. Due to this unfortunate incident, Lema's signature is in relatively short supply and high demand. Finding his name penned on a solo-signed item proves tough to come by. Here is a 1963 "Challenge Golf" contract that Lema signed and inscribed his then home address. Displayed with this contract is a Sports Illustrated cover that he was featured on the front of. The overall piece measures 26" by 20."James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, May 19th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
