Tom Watson Signed 1975 Carnoustie Flag - 12th Hole
An exceptional piece of history is offered in this lot. A course flown flag from Tom Watson's very first major victory, an 18 hole playoff to claim The 1975 Open Championship. Not only did this flag fly on the Carnoustie links 40 years ago, but it also bears Watson's tough signature. Watson is very tough on memorabilia. In Watson's illustrious career, his eight major championships included five Open Championships, two Masters titles, and one U.S. Open title. The only major that has eluded him is the PGA Championship, which would put him in an elite group of golfing "grand slam" winners that includes Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Gene Sarazen, and Tiger Woods. In all, Watson ranks 6th on the list of total major championship victories, behind only Hogan, Nicklaus, Player, Woods, and Walter Hagen.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature of Tom Watson on this flag, and their paperwork of authenticity will come with this lot.
