Tom Stewart RTJ Special Putter with Pipe Stamp & Personal Inspection Mark - Seldom Seen
Tom Stewart was a renowned steel club head maker. Old Tom Morris used the clubs Stewart produced. Morris wasn't Stewart's only fan, as he made steel heads for the likes of clubmakers like the McEwans, the Auchterlonies, and the Forgans, as well as golfers such as James Braid, Francis Ouimet, and Bobby Jones. Jones was in jeopardy of losing his amateur status with Stewart using his name in making the clubheads so Jones asked that he stopped. Stewart resumed production after Jones' 1930 grand slam season and subsequent retirement. This club bears the pipe stamp as well as the personal inspection dot mark of Mr. Stewart. Grip appears to be horsehide, and putter measures 34 1/2" long. Looks like a gold color within the pipe stamping. Please see photos
