Tiger Woods Personal Set of Titleist Forged Irons 2 thru PW - 1999
After sitting in a tour bag for 15 plus years, we now have the great pleasure of offering up a set of Tiger Woods' personal Titleist forged irons 2 thru pitching wedge in The Golf Auction. What a rush it would be to say that you were using the same set as Tiger in a round. Answering for ever in your mind, is it his skill or just the equipment he used? Most likely these clubs are for a worthy centerpiece display. Never to be hit again, but always to be admired. These instruments of Tiger's optimum links success are only the third set which has ever come to the auction block. For the advanced golf collector numerous opportunities to acquire exceptional memorabilia will come over the years, but here is one addition that exceeds those. A set of personal club's from a true legend of not only golf, but sports in general. Most can only dream about an experience like this. You cannot let opportunities like this pass you by.
These TW irons come with a letter of provenance from PGA professional Randy Few, who was the personal golf coach of a retired prominent National Football League wide receiver that happened to be friends with Tiger Woods. Coach Few began teaching this NFL wideout in 1997 on the links of The Windermere Club in South Carolina. The gifted former wideout took to golf with the same passion he had taken to football establishing both a professional and personal bond with Coach Few. This devotion to practice with his coach correlated to an improved golf game and a cemented relationship between the coach and pupils two families. Tiger Woods took notice of his friend the retired NFL player's improvement and devotion to golf. Wood's realized for his friend to continue on his rising improvement, a professional set of club's was needed. Wood's at Lake Nona in 1999 made this commitment to his NFL buddy, giving him the set offered here of his personal Titleist clubs. The transition to the elite set of clubs used by Tiger Woods was not an easy one for the ex-NFL all-pro. His displeasure with the TW irons led to his subsequently gifting them to his golf coach Randy. Being both a father and coach, Mr. Few kept the clubs in the family, allowing his daughter Meredith, an avid Division 1 collegiate golfer, to call them hers(she also provides a letter of provenance). We have honored the retired NFL player's wish to not be named in this public auction, but the winner of these irons will know his identity through the letters of provenance that accompany this lot.
All of this makes a great story, but WHY ARE THESE TIGER'S CLUBS? Here are the facts! Each iron (2-PW) is stamped with the well documented "T" they must contain. These custom irons do not carry a serial number stamping or other markings, and are approximately 2º weak, which are Tiger's personal specs. They are equipped with True Temper s400 Shafts and a lie that sits about 1º upright. The club grips are Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord. These specs correlate to the requirements which Tiger Woods placed on his club shipments from Titleist at this time of his career. Owning this set of Tiger Woods' golf clubs is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Clubs were measured and verified by a Golf Club professional.
