Ted Ray Original Black and White Photo with Pipe in Mouth - Close Shot
Most photos of Ted Ray include his sophisticated patented cigar hanging out of his mouth, with his top lip lined with a thick mustache. This original photo is of a close shot of his face, capturing the aforementioned details and a wry smile. The photo itself shows age on the right side, only marginally affecting the image presentation.
Edward "Ted" Ray was a great British golfer, with a career that spanned decades. Ray won 2 Major tournaments, the 1912 Open Championship and the 1920 US Open. Ray was born in Jersey, the same island country that brought us Harry Vardon. It was in fact Vardon that Ray defeated by four strokes in 1912 to claim the Claret Jug. The following year, Ray joined Vardon on an exhibition tour in the United states that culminated at the 1913 US Open. The 20 year old Francis Ouimet stunned the Brits, who were heavily favored, Beating Ray and Vardon by 5 strokes in a playoff. Ray and Vardon's chance for redemption came at the 1920 US Open, where Ray was victorious by one stroke over Vardon, Jock Hutchison, and two others. 5 x 7"

AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
Place your bids NOW as this auction will close beginning at 10:00pm EDT Sunday, February 5th. When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. Each lot will have its own 30 minute countdown clock during extended bidding. The clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. Place your initial bids BEFORE 10pm ET to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you may bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. Lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 10pm ET
Extended bidding starts at 10pm ET, and each lot will begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you
