Robert 'Bobby' .T Jones Jr. Signed 1927 'Down The Fairway' First Edition Book
A necessary publication for any golf library curated with a discerning eye at the helm is Bobby Jones' 1927 "Down the Fairway," in collaboration with his longtime friend OB Keeler. This instructional book, that has achieved lasting fame, features the insight into the young pre-Grand Slam Jones' life and golf theories is different than the others. Its flyleaf was carefully inscribed and signed magnificently by co-author Bobby Jones with his preferred slanting full-name signature to golf industry cohort Richard H. Semple, Jr., uncle of World Golf Hall of Fame inductee and Bob Jones Award recipient (USGA's highest honor) Carole Semple Thompson. Carole's father and Richard's brother Harton Singer Semple was the United States Golf Association (USGA) President, with Richard H. Semple Jr. serving as the President of the Allegheny Country Club in 1959. "For Richard H. Semple Jr. - With all good wishes for much enjoyment in golf. - Robert T Jones Jr. October 4, 1948." Bobby Jones would go on to use the suggestions he gave the readers in 1927 to capture the impregnable quadrilateral three years later, prior to making his dream golf course come to life in Augusta National Golf Club in 1933. Please closely inspect the photos, for reassurance in the good to very good condition report for this nearly 100 year-old title. A companion piece to this book from the Semple estate is a blue envelope made out to Richard Semple Jr's wife, accompanying the hardbound book in this lot. This 1st edition with 239 unmarked pages 'Down The Fairway' remains an emblematic hardbound in golf literature - lying in this lot is surely one of the finest examples of it! When placing INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
