Rare Original Masters Tournament '1935' Field Silver Gelatin Photo
You are familiar with this iconic photo, or so you think you are. Fascinating is the story of the famous '1935' Masters Tournament field photo, generally mislabeled as 1934, containing the facsimile signatures and containing Walter Hagen. Here is the incredibly rare thick paper stock silver gelatin original '1935' Masters Tournament field without the facsimile signatures or the superimposed Walter Hagen on the top row left side. Known is the fact that it isn't the contestants from inaugural tournament in 1934, as Gene Sarazen is sitting in the front row four in from the left side. Adding to the winding saga is 'Masters Tournament 1933' in the white of the sky in the top left. Instead of Walter Hagen there are two men that are talking to the gentleman on the far left side. Bobby Jones, a participant only in his Masters Tournament and select exhibitions from 1934 until 1948, is pictured in this photo front row center. The three row field was taken from the point of view in front of the clubhouse, with the top of it peeking out between the trees. Please inspect the accompanying lot photos 11 and 12 for the silver gelatin finish shown when tilted in the light just right. This crystal clear photo has a matte finish and textured surface. 23 7/8" x 9 7/8"
