Rare Allan Lard Spalding Medal 'Whistler' Mid Iron
Allan Lard's patented club offered in this lot is one of the very first steel shafted irons. The "Whistler" Mid Iron gets it's name from swinging the club under certain conditions and achieving a 'whistle' sound. Refer to the pictures to get a close-up view of the rare single piece of bored out steel used as the shaft. Six sided steel with many small holes in order to lighten the club, and heralded as "the club of the future" by Spalding, it was the prime option for those looking to achieve a perfect shaft. This example is in excellent condition with some use. The head displays some patina and does not have an owner's stamp which was common practice at the time, increasing it's rarity on top of it's collect-ability. All serious collections involving golf history cannot make such a claim without this club accompanying it. A piece of art, and a piece of history, we are happy to offer this club to you.
