President Dwight D. Eisenhower Personal 1950's Complete Used Set of Robt. T. Jones Jr. Irons & Woods

Remarkably, this offering contains a full set of Dwight D. Eisenhower Personal irons and woods produced for him by Spalding and Robert T. Jones Jr. Each woods club is engraved with the Dwight D. Eisenhower's signature and the General's much deserved five star emblem on the sole, with the crown giving a nod to the President's stated preferred Robert T. Jones model. "DDE" is stamped boldy on the top left corner of each "Robert T. Jones" iron. The 2-9 irons and 1-4 woods show usage consistent of many rounds of play, with evidence of the driver and four woods likely being the President's favorite clubs. For those with a concentration in "match used" relics, this remarkable set of clubs is even more appealing knowing that it was in the hands of the most influential man the world knew in the 1940's and 1950's. This set was specifically crafted for "General Ike" by his good friend at Augusta National Golf Club Bobby Jones and both the woods and irons have matching serial numbers throughout.

The clubs were originally consigned to a 60th Anniversary D-Day Auction over 15 years ago by Jean Causin Ramey. She is the grand-daughter of Dwight D.’s elder brother Edgar Newton Eisenhower (1889-1971). These irons and woods have remained in the winning bidder's possession ever since, and a signed letter of provenance will be provided to the winning bidder. The two brothers were known as Big Ike (Edgar) and Little Ike (Dwight). Schoolmates considered Eisenhower too long a name, and while Dwight would retain the nickname Ike, Edgar ended up dropping it. At the end of the war, Ike could spend more time on the golf course pursuing a sport he loved. Ike’s golf game would garner a great deal of attention and he became a most important person in the transition of golf from play to a sport. The opportunity to acquire a personal set of President Dwight D. Eisenhower irons and woods may not come around for another 15-20 years, so now is the time to bid.
