Pinehurst 2 Course 5th Hole Original Oil On Board Painting Signed by Artist Mil Radler - 1979
Few go from golfing on the tour alongside Nicklaus, Palmer and and Coody to being commissioned by those same golfers to paint favorite courses. A path seldom traveled was that of artist Mil Radler. As the story goes, Mil Radler worked many jobs including sheep herder and most notably golfing pro and tour player. One day he came in contact with a Chinese master painter that encouraged him to take art lessons, which he did. And while in Scotland for Open Championship qualifying, Radler visited the historic courses and holes, painted them and started selling his work. His work has hung in in the World Golf Hall of Fame, Shinnecock and Arnold Palmer's home in Latrobe, PA since.
This painting done by Radler in 1979 is of Pinehurst No 2. Pinehurst Country Club's first golf course was laid out in 1897, and the Pinehurst No. 2 course was designed by Donald Ross and completed in 1907. The club has been home to many Major tournaments, most recently the 2014 US Open. Depicted in the original painting is the scenic 5th hole. 32" x 25" framed and is in excellent condition. A letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
