PGA of America Correspondence Questioning Leo Diegel US Citizenship for 1931 Ryder Cup
"Some question has been raised to the elgibility of Leo Diegel who has been selected by the P.G.A. of America as a member of the team to represent the United States of America...The Executive Committee of the P.G.A. issued a statement today declarying that in vestigates has definitely revealed that Leo Diegel is a citizen of the U.S.A. maintains residence in San Diego, Claifornia, and meets all elgibility requirements for team representation as set down by Samuel Ryder, donor of the cup, in the deed of gift, governing Ryder Cup Competitions." On official PGA of America letterhead in 1931 Leo Diegel was allowed to compete for the US Team once this piece of correspondence was written. Interestingly enough, this was not his first Ryder Cup as a contestant, as he was part of the first four Ryder Cup US Teams in 1927, 1929, 1931 and 1933. There are typos on this typewriter correspondence, only adding to the piece's intrigue.
