Original 'The Duffer's Handbook of Golf' Pen & Ink Cover Artwork by Clare Briggs for 1926 Book - Grantland Rice Author - Wow!
There is a very good chance you have seen this artwork before, quite possibly in your own library, as this ORIGINAL Clare Briggs pen and ink illustration was produced for the cover of popular 1926 title 'The Duffer's Handbook of Golf!' The collaboration with Briggs and Grantland Rice featured the finest duo of golf industry publication royalty during the 'Golden Age of Golf.' This post-swing golfer swinging and missing his ball perched on a sand tee lies just below the title in custom lettering. Between the covers of this book were pages filled with entertaining content for the novice golfer. The often serious game produced humorous storylines such as the distraught husband that, in a short period of time, bettered his lifetime best score. This best-selling Briggs and Grantland book is started off with a memorable illustration, with the original offered for bidding consideration in this lot. Notice 'Grantland Rice' and 'Clare Briggs' were crossed out in this mock-up, as the cover would chose to showcase only the title and golfer depiction on the first edition front cover. Also noted in this planning stage drawing was 'For Jacket' above the image crossed out. 14 1/4" x 15 1/4."

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm ET Sunday, November 21st. When placing INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
**Once extended bidding starts at 10pm ET, each lot will then begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you**
