Original Bobby Jones 1930 'Grand Slam Year' AP Photo at Interlachen for US Open 7/8/1930
Under a microscope and immense pressure Bobby Jones is captured in this photo with his hands on his club, standing next to fellow leading amateur golfers Jimmy Johnston, Donald Moe and Cyril Tolley. Four days before tournament play began at Interlachen Country Club in the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, Minnesota, Bobby Jones was focused and his sights set on his fourth US Open and third leg of his 'Impregnable Quadrilateral.' Often serious in nature, this black and white photograph depicts more of the same for Jones on the heels of another significant tournament. 'Outstanding Quartet in National Open Golf Meet' titles this Associated Press photo in the below caption used in the 'Chicago Bureau' previewing the tournament the sports world would eagerly await the results to. Amateur Bobby Jones would finish as the only golfer par or better at -1, with runner-up MacDonald Smith (+1) awarded the winner's prize of $1,000. This 10" x 8" is in very good condition, with caption intact. The reverse caries a large Chicago Bureau Tribune Tower stamp crediting 'Pacific & Atlantic Photos, Inc.'
