The signature of Hall of Famer Old Tom Morris is exceedingly difficult as demand far exceeds supply for this popular founding father of Golf. Offered here is a superlative Tom Morris signature. "Old Tom" has flawlessly penned in black fountain pen a later life example of his signature (grading "10"). This example has been neatly trimmed to 2 1/2 inches long by 3/4 inch high. Narrowly defeated in the intial British Open Championship in 1860,"Old Tom" went on to win four of the first eight Open's (1861,62,64,67). On the heels of that success he served as Greenskeeper at St. Andrews from 1865-1904.He played in every British Open to 1896 when he was was 75 years old. An accomplished ball and club maker, "Old Tom" gained much acclaim for his design work with Royal County Down, Lahinch in Ireland and of course Muirfield to his credit. He passed away in 1908 and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1976. Married with a classic image of the fatherly "Old Tom" this cut signature framed is truly worthy of being a heirloom, the centerpiece of any collection. James Spence who excells in the analysis of vintage autographs has personally reviewed this signature and a letter of authenticity from his company (JSA) comes with this lot.
