Mickey Wright's 1959 USGA U.S. Women's Open Champion 14k Gold Medal
This is the only known Mickey Wright Major Championship Medal to hit the marketplace and we are proud to be chosen for this rare occasion. This piece will greatly enhance any museum or high end medal collection.
Considered by many historians and fellow golfers to be the Greatest Female Golfer of All-Time, Mickey was the winner of 13 Major Championships, 69 LPGA Tour wins, and considered by Ben Hogan as having the best golf swing he ever saw. She won four (4) U.S. Women’s Opens and four (4) LPGA Championships in her career. She retired in 1969 at the age of 34 due to her aversion to flying and injury. She staged a brief comeback in 1973 when she won the Dinah Shore before retiring once and for all.
Mickey Wright was presented this beautiful enameled 14k Gold Winner’s Medal by the USGA for being the Champion at the 1959 U.S. Women’s Open held at Churchill Valley Country Club, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mickey Wright edged HOF Louise Suggs by 2 strokes on her way to her 2nd of 4 U.S. Open titles! This win also represented back to back U.S. Open Championships for Ms. Wright (1958 & 1959).
Mickey is one of four individuals to be honored with their own exhibition room at the USGA Museum joining Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus. The U.S. Women’s Open medal has recently been renamed in her honor and redesigned with an image of her iconic swing.
