MacGregor Ben Hogan Tourney Irons - Rare

This is an authentic “set” of MacGregor Ben Hogan Tourney irons. It consists of 2,3,4,7,8,9 – the 5 and 6 irons are missing. The heads have been re-chromed and the clubs re-shafted. There is no model number, with the blade simply stamped “Tourney” on the toe. Nearly all known MacGregor Ben Hogan irons are store line models, with such known examples as the 1622, 2422, etc. Supposedly there were no “pro line” irons with the Ben Hogan name produced, so that would make these 6 irons the exception. These clubs also do not posses the “Concentrated Weight” feature found on the clubs circa 1950 that have been directly attributed to Hogan with the “Personal Model” stamp. There are at least three such sets known (all of which are also incomplete), and there is a lone Ben Hogan 3852 (pro line) 1 iron without the Personal Model stamp. Were these made for Hogan in early the 1940’s prior to the Personal Model Stamp being used? Are they proto-types of some sort? Were they produced as a favor to some major client of MacGregor who was a Hogan devotee? Were they a gift from Hogan himself? The answer may never be known, but we are pleased to provide you with an opportunity to add these to your collection. The word most collector's wish not to hear is 'restoration', but we believe that this is a case where rarity and desirability trumps condition. For the advanced collector of Hogan artifacts, here is an opportunity to acquire a set of clubs that may very well have had a personal connection to the man himself.
