When it was officially announced that the 2020 Players Championship would be cancelled it was shocking news, especially considering the circumstances. The Players Championship was through only the first round, with it scheduled to take place March 12-15. Due to the pandemic play was cut short, leaving international sensation Hideki Matsuyama with a two stroke lead. While it was an unconventional finish, so was Matsuyama's play on Thursday. Hideki Matsuyama carded a -9 score of 63 and finished Friday with a share of the TPC Sawgrass course record and become the eternal "leader."
