Donald J. Ross & Richard S.Tufts Signed Original George Pietzcker Photo - Matted

Every Golf collector knows the difficulty of acquiring signatures from the great course architects of the early 20th century who came from Europe to the United States, be it Alister MacKenzie or Donald Ross. Known as the first U.S. architect to really design courses; Ross worked on over 500 in the United States. He came to Pinehurst in 1901 and was based there till his death in 1948. While there he designed and built Pinehurst Nos. 2,3, and 4 courses. He also designed Oakland Hills, Seminole, Inverness, Scioto and Oak Hill. Presented here is a spectacular example of Ross' penmanship on a photo which carries notation of dating 1926 along with the signature of another famed architect and Pinehurst owner Richard S. Tufts, both autographs were signed with black period fountain pen. If the content of the image is not enough to excite you please take note that this image comes from the famed lens of U.S.G.A. renowned photographer George S. Pietzcker. The original Type 1 photo bears the Pietzcker embossing crimp in the lower right hand corner. The image does display significant damage to the left border area, this does not impact images of the two architects or their highly valued signatures. A second image of Ross (Non-Pietzcker) swinging is also attached to the matting board. The signed photo - 5 3/8" x 7 1/4", Ross photo - 4 1/4" x 6 3/8", overall piece - 8" x 10." James Spence Authentication (JSA) provides a letter of authenticity for the Ross and Tufts autographs in this lot. A second letter, of provenance comes from the PGA of America historian who sourced this offering.
