1940's Dunlop Golf Ball Caddie "We Play Dunlop" Advertising Figural Point Of Purchase Display
Selling golf balls for industry leaders such as Dunlop, Penfold and Silver King in the 1930's through the 1950's meant rolling out extensive marketing campaigns that included, among other promotional mediums, point of purchase displays that caught the eye of those shopping in the local sporting goods stores. During production, the thought process was that they would be used for a short while in the store that sold their brand of balls and then tossed out. Because of this logic, they were not made to last and the majority of them did not. Containing the original paint and golf clubs, the Dunlop Man advertising piece displays well in any collection. This polychrome caddie stands 15" tall with a base that measures 6" x 6". It is in very good condition with exception to the slight damage to the front of the hat. The bill of the hat had too much tension on it from shrink wrap used for shipping. Please see up close photos for proper viewing of area.
The Golf Auction will be on site this Tuesday through Sunday (July 31st - August 4th) at the 2019 National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Il. We will be accepting consignments, performing appraisals, and accepting bids. Stop by and say hello! We will be in Booth #1018
AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, August 4th with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
