Bud Ward & Sam Byrd Signed Pair of 1 Cent Postage Stamps
This vintage one cent stamp pairing has signatures of Bud Ward and Sam Byrd on it. These golfers were important players in the game of golf from the late 1930s, through the 1940s. Marvin "Bud" Ward was an Amateur golfer best known for winning the US Amateur twice (1939 and 1941). He also won the Western Amateur three times and his home state Washington Amateur twice. Sam Byrd was a successful baseball player prior to his golf career, often pinch-running for Babe Ruth as a teammate on the Yankees. Byrd then went on to win six events on the PGA tour and was runner up to Byron Nelson in the 1945 PGA Championship, during Nelson’s streak of 11 consecutive wins. These stamps are in good condition and come in a cachet. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
