1978 PGA Championship at Oakmont CC Contestant Badge - John Mahaffey Winner
Continuing the run of contestant badges with the host courses’ logos, the1978 badge has the most famous squirrel in golf on display in the middle of the clip. After holding the 54-hole lead, Tom Watson shot a 73 on Sunday to open the door for the other competitors. Jerry Pate had his chance on the final day, lipping out a 4 ft putt for par on the 72nd hole. The 60th PGA Championship at Oakmont Country Club saw John Mahaffey win his only major championship in a sudden-death playoff over Pate and Watson. This relic of competition at golfs highest level comes directly from the PGA where it has resided for over 75 years. From the collection of PGA REACH, with a certificate of authenticity accompanying this lot.

AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, April 14th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
