1953 Frank Stranahan 1st Amateur-Whiting Sterling Silver Pitcher - Jacksonville 9th Ann. Open Golf Invitational
By 1953 it was almost a fore gone conclusion that Frank Stranahan would be the low amateur when he competed in an Open event with a PGA professional field, more in question was how many big name pay-for-play golfers he would top that week. This was the case at the Ninth Annual Jacksonville Open as Stranahan finished at 283, 5 under aggregate for the week. His fine play placed him in a tie for 9th place overall that week equaling PGA stalwarts Freddie Haas and Sam Snead performance that week. Bestowed on Frank for besting all amateurs in the field that week was a 9 1/4" x 6" x 9 1/2" trophy of achievement carrying engraving by Whiting MFG as follows on the bottom of the water pitcher "Sterling, By Frank M. Whiting Company" "1951" "4 1/2 Pint".

This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, March 3rd, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
