Dwight D. Eisenhower Spalding Wood Shafted Calamity Jane Putter - Signature & 5 Star on Head
Few clubs are as synonymous with their owners as Calamity Jane is with Augusta National co-founder Bobby Jones. The rusting, beat-up blade helped Jones win his first three majors (before he replaced it with a replica), and in turn awarded Jones the influence to build—and attract members to—his dream course. One of those new members would become a close friend in five star general and future President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The 'golfer in chief' as he was sometimes referred to, President Eisenhower was bit by the golf bug, and he was bit hard. Tied to many courses over the years, Eisenhower was most closely connected to Augusta National Golf Club, and it's founder Bobby Jones. Exchanging gifts was commonplace for the two icons, the President gifted a painting he had done for Jones, and Jones returned the favor with his very own custom Calamity Jane putter with 'Dwight D. Eisenhower' script along the head of the putter. There was a putter Bobby Jones had given to Ike during the White House Correspondents dinner, and this is not that putter. Not rusty or beat-up, this given club presents in very good to excellent condition, has it's leather grip, and is bound to be a highlight for the winning bidder. When asked how his life had changed since being President, he simply answered "I don't get as many short putts". Well, maybe your very own Calamity Jane putter helped you along the way Mr. President! The Hall of Famer Eisenhower also had a great personal relationship with the PGA of America, and had a putting green installed at the White House. The White House Putting Green was a short walk outside the Oval Office door, and was first installed in 1954. Randy Huber, a historian of Hershey CC, states that this "sweet" putter was more than likely shafted, had it's triple wrapped whipping, and grip done by Ed Dudley at Augusta. He taught President Eisenhower how to golf and also made golf clubs. Mr Dudley's very own putter from 1933 shares in it's own design what is present on this putter. AUCTION CLOSING RULES:
This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, March 3rd, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
