President George Bush Signed 10/25/1993 Typed Letter to Doug Sanders

President Bush and Doug Sanders seemed to have a special friendship. This letter to Sanders, written and signed by President Bush, hints that Sanders had asked if the President to be his partner for the AT&T Tournament. The President, unfortunately, had already been teamed up with Hale Irwin.
THE DOUG SANDERS COLLECTION
Doug Sanders won his first tournament in 1956 when as an amateur he won the Canadian Open. He went on to capture titles at almost all of the important PGA Tour stops of the day: the Western Open, Doral, the Bob Hope and Colonial. He would never win a Major, but did finish second in three of the four including PGA Championship 1959, U.S. Open 1961 and British Open in 1966 and again in 1970. In all he claimed 20 PGA Tour titles battling stars like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus during the height of their careers. He played with both Jack and Arnie on the victorious U.S. Ryder Cup team of 1967. A companion of noted celebrities of the day which included the Rat Pack, Sanders always has been known as a stylish, flamboyant dresser on the golf course, thus earning his name "Peacock of the Fairways". ESQUIRE named him as one of America's " Ten best dressed Jocks" in 1973. In this auction we offer several items sourced from the personal collection of Sanders assembled over his fifty plus years in professional golf on the PGA and Senior Tours.
