Walter Burkemo Signed Envelope - Sigurd Berg Collection - PSA Slabbed
Walter Burkemo was an excellent match player, fighting his way to the final round of the PGA Championship three times in four years. In 1951 he ran afoul of Sam Snead and was beaten. In 1953 he would win 2 and 1 over Felice Torza at his "home town" Birmingham Country Club and in 1954, he lost to the long hitting Chick Harbert. In the entire history of the PGA Championship being contested as match play (which would be the format through 1957), only five players (all Hall of Famers) would reach the finals more often then Burkemo: James Barnes, Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson and Sam Snead. Offered here is an envelope signed by Burkemo and PSA slabbed #83976442. This comes from the collection of Sigurd Berg, a collector from the 1940's to 1970's who would mail self-addressed stamped envelopes to sports stars for them to drop back in the mail. The post marks and stamps further add to the appeal of Berg's collection.
