Wright & Ditson Bee-Line Waterfall Dedstop B-7 Pitcher
Wright & Ditson was founded by baseball Hall of Famer George Wright and his business partner Henry Ditson in 1871 and produced sporting goods of all kinds, including golf clubs and balls. George Wright was responsible for bringing some of the most well known names in golf to the US around the turn of the century, convincing A. H. Findlay to come to the US and put his artistic touch to a line of clubs for Wright & Ditson, as well as playing a part in the Henry Vardon exhibition in 1900. Wright was also able to convince Albert Goodwill Spalding to leave his office work and venture into sporting goods. Offered here is W & D's Bee-Line dedstop waterfall pitcher. The face has deep grooves, the club coming in good condition. The grip is loose, please refer to photographs. It measures 36 1/2" to the heel. The R & A outlawed the Waterfall clubs in the early 1900's. The single waterfall scoring was a refined version of William Reach's double waterfall idea. Having the ribs a more pronounced arc made the controlling of a short shot easier. After notorious golfer's such as Francis Ouimet and Howard Whitney (President of the USGA) began stating their displeasure over the "Jerko" club, it was eventually disbarred from play in the following months.
Please note: This auction will end at 5:00pm EST on Sunday, June 17th, with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow.
