St. Andrews Whisky Golfing Collectors Series Decanter by Pointers of London & Edinburgh
This St Andrews porcelain decanter is in excellent condition and stands 10 inches tall. Currently empty, it will hold up to one liter. Decanter shape is hexagonal with the stopper perimeter depicting vintage golf clubs(Spoon, Mashie, Driver, Niblick, Putter, and Mashie Niblick), and the neck depicting vintage legendary golfers (James Braid, Old Tom, Harry Vardon, Lady Golfer, Young Tom, and The Championship Cup). The top of the stopper depicts the legendary 'Road Bunker'. Two Bill Waugh course paintings cover two panels each, while on the 'back' side is the following:
The St. Andrews Golfing Decanter
In this land of heather, whin, grass and sand, with the snow capped highlands to the north and the sea spray drifting in over the dunes, lies St. Andrews, the traditional home of golf. The story started as long ago as the twelfth century when the old course was laid out, roughly in the shape of a huge shepherds crook, and still remains today much as it was in the beginning.
The Royal and Ancient Club was founded at St. Andrews in 1754 and was granted royal charter by King William IV . The club is steeped in tradition and ceremony. Well know are the blue and white club colours and the red coats of the captains.
The artist, Bill Waugh, known as "Mr Golf" to the art world , has captured some of the history and magic in the scenes. It would be hard to find a golfer of note who has not crossed the Swilcan Bridge and fortunate are those who have not been waylaid in the Road Hole Bunker. The course has seen so many great characters, Old Tom Morris, The Old Man of Golf whose son Young Tom was the outstanding player of his day. James Braid was another great open champion and the famous trophy is depicted here. The competition was first organised in order to decide "the best golfer in the world"
