1954 Wire Photo of Arnold Palmer In Action During U.S.G.A. Amateur Win

No less an authority then Jack Nicklaus calls the United States Golf Association's Amateur Championship a "Major". Whether it is or isn't is open to debate. What is known is that the 1954 U.S. Amateur took a fellow, who was selling paint in Cleveland (Arnold Palmer), put his golf game to test over a week of gritty match play, and crowned him champion by virtue of a 1-up win in the 36 hole finals match. That weeks event was contested at The Country Club of Detroit, and it is what Mr. Palmer considered the turning point of his career. Offered here is a 7 1/8" x 8 1/2" original wire photograph of Palmer during the tournament, hitting out of the rough at the 6th hole. The photo is in good condition, showing only a small tear at the bottom left corner.
