1935 US Open at Oakmont CC Program Signed by Winner Sam Parks Jr.
The 1935 Championship was contested at Oakmont Country Club some 20 miles outside Pittsburgh, Pa. It marked the second time the USGA had staged the event at Oakmont. A layout that was recognized as the nonpareil of penal golf course design. The 1935 Open produced a predictable high score of 299. What was not predictable was that Sam Parks Jr., a 25-year-old local pro from Pittsburgh, would best the likes of his teacher Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen, Denny Shute, Byron Nelson, Tommy Armour and the rest of the field. Front cover is nice on this ALL ORIGINAL example, as some one is reviewing your collection flipping through programs 1933, 1934, 1935. They may even comment "boy that '35 is nice" based on cover alone. With the binding being tight, showing only minimal wear on the two of the four corners, but with the inner pages in lily white condition with no signs of staining or water damage, we are proud to auction off such an exquisite piece of golf history. Please observe the pictures provided. A great example of the '35 program for the U.S. Open won by Sam Parks and published by the United States Golf Association. Oh we didn't mention, an added bonus is that page number 3 of this publication features a discreet ink signature strongly penned by Championship winner, Parks. JSA has reviewed this autograph, and their paperwork of authenticity comes with this lot.
