Rodman Wanamaker Vintage Fountain Pen Cut Signature PSA/DNA #83914366
Card measures 4 1/2" x 1 1/2" cut on a 5" x 3" card and is authenticated & slabbed by PSA/DNA. Rodman Wanamaker's name appears on the trophy for the PGA Championship tournament. He leaves a vintage signature on an index card, signed with fountain pen. The inscription 'Yours Very Truly' appears above the signature. Wanamaker was a department store magnate and had several outside endeavors, and his connection to the golf world came after he invited a group of 35 prominent golfers and leading industry representatives to a luncheon at the Taplow Club in New York in January 1916. The luncheon was designed to be an exploratory meeting, and ultimately resulted in the formation of the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA). Wanamaker hinted during the meeting that the newly formed PGA would need an annual professional tournament and offered money, trophies, and medals to form a prize fund. Months later, the first PGA Championship was played at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. The tournament has evolved into one of golf's four major championship tournaments, and PGA Tour golfers now compete for the Wanamaker Trophy.
