Jack Burke Jr. Signed Winged Foot East Course Scorecard
Jack Burke Jr was a two-time major winner, with both victories coming in 1956 at the Masters and PGA Championship. Burke's Masters victory would be remembered as one of the greatest comebacks in tournament history. He finished one stroke ahead of amateur Ken Venturi, after trailing by eight strokes entering Sunday's final round. Burke was late to arrive on Sunday after attending church and had just minutes to warm up. Nonetheless, his prayers were answered as he would go on to shoot a 71 (one of only two golfers to break par Sunday) and rallied to pass Venturi, who had led the entire tournament. After serving in the war, Burke served as an assistant Pro at Winged Foot Golf Club, where he took tips from Claude Harmon. Here we have an 9 1/8" x 3 1/2" scorecard from Winged Foot signed by Burke.
