Fernquest & Johnson 1970 Tony Lema Wood Set - 1,3,4, & 5
Here we have a wood set made by Fernquest & Johnson. F & J manufactured clubs in California in the 1960s. These clubs are Tony Lema signature Golden Gate models that are new with some varnish wear. Lema won 12 times on the PGA Tour, including the 1964 British Open where he beat Jack Nicklaus by five strokes. Tony Lema's career and life were cut short following the 1966 PGA Championship in Akron, Ohio when he and his wife were on a charter airplane heading to an exhibition tournament south of Chicago, the Little Buick Open in Crete, Illinois. Ironically, Lema would crash onto a golf course, landing in a water hazard on the 7th hole of the Lansing Country Club, less than a mile from their destination.
