1969 Ryder Cup Lot: Captains Holding Trophy Wire Photo, Thursday Ticket, Crest, & Blazer Badge "Captain"

The 1969 Ryder Cup matches were held at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. The competition ended in a draw at 16 points each, when America's Jack Nicklaus conceded a missable putt to Britain's Tony Jacklin at the 18th hole. It was one of the most famous gestures of sportsmanship in all of sport. It was the first draw in Ryder Cup history, and the United States team retained the Cup. During one of the fourballs on the second day, amid bad sportsmanlike behavior from both teams, both captains had to come out and calm down the players. This led to Nicklaus conceding Jacklin's final putt with the knowledge that the tournament would end in a draw. Nicklaus' gesture became known as "the concession". This lot presents several pieces for bidders: An original wire photo of US Captain Sam Snead and European Captain Eric Brown holding the Ryder Cup trophy, two patches, and a Thursday ticket to the matches. please see photos for condition.
