1980 Memorial Tournament Byron Nelson Honoree Commemorative Plate
This lot features a commemorative plate from the 1980 Memorial Tournament. Each year the Memorial Tournament honors an important figure in golf. Selecting honorees was Nicklaus' idea as a contribution to perpetuating achievements of the games' greatest individuals. In 1980, Byron Nelson received the honor. Nelson was one of golf's greatest legends, and in 1945 he had the most amazing year of any golfer. He won an incredible 18 PGA tournaments, including the infamous run of eleven in a row, and finished second in seven others. The plate measures 8 1/2" in diameter.
