Joan Ryder Handwritten Letter to Henry Cotton - 7/14/1937 - Ryder Cup & Open
Letter reads as follows:
JULY 14th 1937
Dear Mr. Cotton.
You will have had so many congratulations that I hardly like to add mine! But it is a great pleasure to tell you what a joy your recent successes have been to me and to my family.
I must confess that the loss of the Cup over here cast me into the depths of gloom, as I couldn’t help feeling my father’s efforts to encourage British golf had been a bit wasted – but the blaze of glory which you have achieved during these recent days has been a great consolation.
Those of us who have understood “great” golf all our lives know that your victories have been no accident or stroke of fortune, but the reward of patient study and courage. I do wish you many years of success and happiness.
